Master Thesis – Full Time – Munich (Forschungszentrum Garching)

THE MISSION

We want to Enable economical quantum tech products for disruptive applications and accelerate the second quantum revolution and the world´s transition to sustainable quantum technologies.

Your task will be to be in charge of developing and fabricating optimized contact pad designs for multipixel SSPDs (e.g. used for QKD). Your responsibilities will include the setting up and optimization of contact pad design, fabrication of devices for testing (mainly using optical lithography techniques) and measuring the electrical characteristics of the contact pads, such as the cross talk between pixels. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, independent thinker, and interested in Quantum Technolgies. This position is full-time and needs to be based in Munich (Forschungszentrum Garching).

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • You will design, simulate and fabricate contact pad structures for multipixel detectors based on previous developments in our team
  • You will perform high-frequency analysis of the multipixel detectors to study and optimize the cross talk and electrical signal flow inside the structures
  • You will further perform the electrical characterization of samples in several cryostat setups to measure the detector performance

RELEVANT SKILLS

We value a creative mindset and a go-getter attitude. Hard skills can always be learned. That being said, we are searching for someone with:

  • University background in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • Knowledge about quantum sensors and technologies
  • Previous experience with high-frequency electronics characterization techniques (e.g. VNA)
  • Familiarity with nanofabrciation techniques (Optical Lithography, Evaporation etc.)
  • Practical  Experience with electrical characterization setups in cryogenic envirnoments
  • Strong communication skills: Fluent in English, German is a plus.
  • High motivation and commitment
